New home of discovery and innovation with dedicated research facilities, in the heart of West London.

Project info

Forming part of the Imperial College West London Estate, we undertook the full mechanical and electrical services to a series of research laboratories contained within an existing 12 storey building. With over 300 fume cupboards and high specification chemical resistant extract systems, this is one of the largest facilities of its type in Europe. Specialist technical areas include clean rooms, data suites, a nonmagnetic nuclear resonance studio and laser suites.

What We Did

We undertook the M&E services layout and installed the full mechanical, public health and electrical systems, providing a turnkey service solution. Services include LTHW and CHW services, domestic services, laboratory gasses, ventilation systems, LV panels, essential and non-essential electrical distribution, lighting and small power, lightning protection and earthing systems, PV and access control.

We were also required to undertake a Cat to Cat B fit-out. The building was originally intended as offices before being redesigned for high tech research, creating some obstacles. The floor slab to slab heights for a new usage was therefore very restricted making coordination of the laboratory fume cupboards main air requirements and all the other high-level services extremely challenging. It was a challenge we overcame however.

The majority of the high-level services were exposed, requiring a very high-quality installation. Specialist rooms included laser labs, instrument rooms, x-ray, nuclear magnetic research (NWR) and low electrical noise labs, together with a large lecture theatre.

A platform for innovation and entrepreneurship at the heart of one of the most exciting, dynamic and rapidly changing parts of London.
